Stereoscopic 3D games arrive on PlayStation 3

Sony have announced that tomorrow will see the release of the first stereoscopic 3D game experiences for PlayStation 3 (PS3). The stereoscopic 3D Collection (costing £23.99) will includ WipEout HD, SuperStardust HD, PAIN, plus an exclusive single level demo of MotorStorm: Pacific Rift. The pack will also be free as part a Sony Bravia 3D TV package.

Sony have been pushing 3D for some time now and have made their intentions to make the PS3 fully 3D compatible clear. As a selection of games to show of what 3D can bring to the table, we’d say that this was a fairly sensible choice of titles that cover all the main bases. The problem is…how many 3D TVs are their out there, in the wild, ready and waiting to play host to this collection?

The answer, we suspect, is not many at all…but, as a statement of intent and as means of planting the 3D seed in peoples minds…this launch is probably as good a way as any. And, of course, there’s also the fact that Sony will now be able to claim that its system was 3D first (in the console market at any rate)…
