Star Wars: The Force Unleashed will see a sequel hitting stores in late 2010, it has been announced.

It was revealed at the 2009 VGA’s by Lucasarts that Vader’s former apprentice Starkiller will be returning as the main character, a fact some might find surprising due to the cataclysmic events at the end of the original game.

The teaser trailer depicts a force adept in a robe walking along a hallway, tormented by the ominous words of Yoda and Darth Vader. The adept is then revealed to be none other than Starkiller who steps into an arena to engage with a giant ape-like creature, dwarfing even a rancor in size. It will be interesting to see if the game actually features dual wielding as a gameplay mechanic or if the teaser only used it for artistic reasons. A website, www.unleashed2010.com confirms next year’s release window. This site also depicts Starkiller holding twin lightsabers.

The sequel to Batman: Arkham Asylum has also been announced, with www.arkhamhasmoved.com presenting an image of a man holding a gun and his face torn away – most likely Batman’s nemesis, Two Face.

batman arkham asylumWhile no screenshots are currently available the teaser reveals an even grittier atmosphere than before as the camera pans along the Gotham slums. The Joker, sitting with a blood pack and tended to by Harley Quinn still appears battered following his confrontation in the last game. A ruined Batman logo then emerges with a concrete look befitting of the new environment.

The awards also saw the début of trailers for Halo: Reach, a new Medal of Honour, Crackdown 2 and Prince of Persia:The Forgotten Sands.

So, does the return of Starkiller make sense or should Lucasarts have moved on to a new force sensitive? Is the promise of stalking the grim streets of Gotham exciting, or is it all a bit too soon? Feel free to let us know…
