Next Prince of Persia a movie tie-in?

Publishing giant Ubisoft has announced its new game, Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands will be hitting consoles in spring to coincide with the Jerry Bruckheimer-produced adventure flick, The Sands of Time. It has also been reported the latest instalment in the popular series will feature the prince from last gen’s trilogy rather than the cocky bandana-clad newcomer from 2008’s reboot.

Prince of PersiaBased on 2003’s Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time, the film stars Jake Gyllenhaal as Prince Dastan and is directed by Mike Newell, who worked on Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire. The movie co-stars Gemma Aterton from Quantum of Solace with Ben Kingsley filling in as the main antagonist Nazim, hopefully adding more credibility than he did to Uwe Boll’s universally panned adaptation, Bloodrayne.

With a release of May 28 assured in the USA, UK and Australia, we won’t have to wait too long to see if the film lives up to the hype.  Let’s just hope the game itself proves to be less of a rushed tie-in and more of what we’ve come to expect from the franchise.

While no other details of The Forgotten Sands have been released, long-time fans who found the latest prince lacking in likeability will be pleased to see their beloved trilogy return to the forefront of gaming. Does this mean we’ve seen the last of Elika and the evil Ahriman? D+Pad will keep you posted…
