Facebook arrives on Playstation 3 with Firmware update V3.10
Sony has announced that the latest firmware update for the Playstation 3 will soon be ready for download. Though failing to add the much demanded cross-game chat feature, firmware 3.10 still holds some welcome features.
Most interestingly, Playstation 3 users will now be able to directly link their profiles to their Facebook account, with the option to automatically update their Facebook pages with trophy details and new game purchases. Developers will also be able to use this feature within their games (as demonstrated in Naughty Dog’s recent Uncharted 2 experiment with Twitter). While you will still have to use the PS3s browser to view Facebook itself, this is a nice little edition to the console, bringing Sony one small step closer towards its ultimate goal of making the Playstation 3 an all-encompassing media hub.
The update also adds an ability to change the colours on your PSN friendlist, and a more sensibly designed photo viewer.
So what do you think? Will you be bombarding your Facebook friends with trophy updates? Or will you be giving this feature a miss?
UPDATE: It has been confirmed that the V3.10 Playstation 3 firmware update will be available from today (18th November 2009).
