SCE has released the first gameplay footage of God of War III.

Showing Kratos dish out death to Centaurs, Skeletons and other mythological beasties, the gameplay trailer showcases the new game engine built from the ground up and “state-of-the-art visual technologies”.

“We have large shoes to fill following the success of the previously released God of War titles,” said Stig Asmussen, Game Director for God of War 3. “But with refined gameplay and jaw-dropping visuals, I guarantee that God of War will give fans what they have been eagerly waiting for, and much more.”

Set once again in the realms of Greek mythology, God of War III sees Kratos tread through the heights of Mt. Olympus and the dark depths of Hell to seek revenge on those who have betrayed him

The press release also put to bed rumours of co-op play being integrated into the franchise, clearly stating that God of War III is a single-player game.
