Much like Manchester City’s recent 6-0 drubbing of FA Cup winners Portsmouth, last year’s face-off between the two domineering forces of football came as quite a shock. Not because of how tight the line between FIFA and PES was being squeezed, but by how high a margin EA’s efforts crushed Konami’s rapidly-ageing football experience. It was a whitewash, and the fans weren’t happy.

With roles seemingly reversed, PES now has a lot more to prove than FIFA ever did, but the real question comes in how EA can capitalise on their new found fame in the meantime. But when you’re limited by the rules of the beautiful game, where do you take the series for its sixteenth iteration?
