Cliff Bleszinski: “I HATE the f*cking PS3 controller”
Talking to D+PAD at a recent Gears of War 2 preview event, Gears of War lead designer Cliff Bleszinski has revealed his hatred for the PS3 controller.
When asked about the possibility of working on Sony’s console in the future, Cliff stated:
“I don’t really work on PS3 - I HATE the f*cking controller! I love the Blu-ray player, I think there are some great games for PS3; I think Metal Gear’s great, Heavenly Sword was great, but right now I’ll always work on Xbox with Gears. I feel very comfortable with the 360. I like the controller!”
We’re not the biggest fans either Cliff, but it’s not that bad, is it?
You can check out the full interview with Cliff here, and look out for our hands-on report with Gears of War 2 in the next issue of D+PAD, coming to www.dpadmagazine.com on October 14th.

Yes. Yes it is that bad. I’ve always hated the PS controller. Unfortunately, Sony loves it & has made no real changes to it in three generations now.
I don’t see the xbox controller that much of a different comparing to ps3 controller. His fingers must be fu*ked
Sony loves it, and so do the fans, because it’s the single greatest controller made; it has served as the base and reference for all controllers, and has survived 3 generations.
To add to that, the Xbox controller just doesn’t do it for me.
Hate is a strong word but I totally understand the man. The controller is nothing compared to the 360 nor the Controller S on the first box. And this from a ps3-fanboy. (don´t own a 3360 nor do I not plan on getting one)
cliffy-b we fucking hate you too, acting like you all that just one game he create and acting like a big shot cliffy B u r a douche bag
we’re all so very sorry your completely wrapped up inside your own ass cliffy, but if you actually try enjoying something other than your own self proclaimed overly constrasted, pixeled, and textured masterpieces, you’d find that the ps controller dominated the last two generations for a reason. It’s a good design.
I can’t play with the 360 controller without my thumb slipping on the damn xbox button, because its STUPIDLY [yes i said stupidly] located right on the middle at the controller’s highest hump.
now that’s a shitty controller.
I love how he doesn’t give reason for his hatred, too. Blind fanboyism?
for a website called d-pad to be talkin good about the xbox360 controller which has the worst dpad in the history of man i think is quite ironic
Heh… you should have called him CliffyB… I hear he loves that! I’m also a fan of the 360 controller… if only it had a Nintendo D-Pad…
bullshit….
cliff is shit, asshole and fucking bastard….
i never had any problem with the controller…. it is just about the taste…
PC is considered to be the best for SHOOTER games… then why is he not making gears 2 on pc then…
My friend and I can barely tell the difference between the two. The 360 controller is slightly heavier and bulkier, and ps3 triggers aren’t as good. But that’s about it… It’s not exactly a paradigm shift between the two anyway. I wonder what’s bugging CliffyB?
Are you serious? I like the 360 controller for shooters only.. Forget about fighting games or anything else.. And the D-pad IS god Awful!!!
The ps3 controller is not perfect but no where near where anyone should HATE it! Hate the Jaguar controller! that one sucked donkey!
It’s okay, I do not particularly like it though. I still prefer the xbox S controller. I was excited when sony originally showed prototype boomerang controller for ps3. Thems the breaks though. If its any consolation though, I hate the developer formally known as CliffyB.
I love the PS controller….the DPad is awesome…it has great balance…but the analog sticks could have a dip inside them like the 360….the 360 controller’s dpad sucks…nothing new, and it feels unbalanced to me…but i’m so used to the PS controller for over 10 years now/
yea, i own both systems and have always tried to stay neutral when it comes to fanboy rants and raves, however, the ps3 controller is definitely sub par. It really just comes down to the R2 and L2 buttons. Holding for extensive periods of time (for COD4, formula 1, any racing games) is terrible with the controller. Your fingers slip off. It was a poor design decision.
If he doesn’t like it that’s his problem. Not much ps3 gamers that I know of like the 360 controller either including me. I feels really awkward in my hands. I grew up on the snes so the closest thing to that controller is the dual shock, I’ve been using it for three generations now and i don’t see myself using any other controller.
Well it’s not that bad. They need to make the triggers less squishy and the analogs need to be a bit firmer. They should change it though, it’s a 3rd generation control that hasn’t seen much change since the the PSone. The Dpad is wonderful!! I love the pressure sensitive buttons and lets face it, most of us grew up with that controller but it’s time for a change.
This is your excuse? LOL Whats the matter Cliffy, scared to learn a new system? Huh? M$ already put 6 generations of your family thru college so now theres no need too. Or maybe its cause you are just “BADASS!” and “BETTER THAN EVER!”.
I ever liked PS Joypads …
BTW I really can’ t get why if you don’ t like the joypad you don ‘t develope for that console … I think it’ soooo childish …
But this is Cliffy.
@STFUP
They made no changes cause it’s perfect the way it is. The SIXAXIS/DS3 L2/R2 buttons are crap, but the overall design is much better than the 360 controller. It actually hurts my hands!
same here…
no, i mean bullshit…. ps3’s sucks…
Yes of course! Try to play Tekken, Street Fighter or King of Fighter with the Xbox360 Controller D-Pad. Xbox360 controller is good for analog sticks but nothing else.
QUOTE]We’re not the biggest fans either Cliff, but it’s not that bad, is it?[/]
haha. eat a dick = Gears is the best.
STFUP you need to stfu. After all of the bitching people made about the boomerang controller when Sony first unveiled it and now you’re complaining that the dual shock was kept. Every PS fan loves the controller. I do, i wouldn’t trade it for any other.
Fair enough. I don’t really have a problem with either pad. Perfection would be 360 shape, weight, triggers and analogues, PS3 L1/R1 and face buttons, Saturn Dpad :p
“I don’t really work on PS3 - I HATE the f*cking controller! I love the Blu-ray player”
“But right now I’ll always work on Xbox with Gears. I feel very comfortable with the 360. I like the controller!”
Translation….I’m sucking Microbucks cock right now but would be willing to suck Sony’s for the right price!!
Dude both controllers have the same amount of buttons 2 joysticks & a directional pad. You need a stronger argument than that.
Hahah, I laughed alot. First off, saying that you hate a controller because it has a Guide Button that you can actually find is the single, most retarded reason to hate a controller.
And anyway, if you like Sony’s controllers, then you’re probably a prepubescent little kid too, because the PS controller is very small, that’s why it’s uncomfortable for me. And I’m already accustomed myself with the position of the sticks.
And last, it’s all about the taste. Some like it, some don’t. More like it than the blind PS fanboys who like it just because their favorite CONSOLE is the PS3.
And uhh, who said the Playstation, hmph, “dominated” the last generation? Even if it did, it was because the Xbox’s controller was too big, and some people even retardedly over-exxagerated this thing, like Penny Arcade. But with the 360, the controller was made smaller, and now it isn’t the gigantic brick it was. So now, the 360’s controller is way, WAY better.
Seriously, go search for peoples’ opinions on the controller. There are much more reviews loving the 360’s controller than the PS3’s controller.
CliffyB you are an asshole. There is NOTHING wrong with the PS3 controller. Personally, I am indifferent when it comes to playing most games on xbox/ps3 based on the controllers, except that I cannot play fighting games and THPS on xbox controller. The d-pad sucks so hard on the xbox, but the dual shock has no gaping flaw (some complain about R2/L2, but it’s no comparison to the xbox d-pad). Quit whining CliffyB.
