TNA Impact!
As sub-genres go, that of wrestling games isn’t usually one that inspires much confidence. This wasn’t always the case though. Back around the time of the millennium, developers Aki/Asmik and Yuke were competing for wrestling fans’ hearts with titles such as WWF No Mercy and Smackdown: Know Your Role. The successes of these games may have been, in part, down to a certain peoples’ champ, who smelled what we were all cooking, but nevertheless they received critical acclaim with fans helping them to moonsault and pedigree their way to the top of the charts.
In the eight years since those glory days the wrestling sub-genre has fallen into a sorry state of affairs with patchy releases and titles of a questionable quality. So it was with trepidation that we placed the latest offering, from a wrestling league new to video games (TNA, Total Nonstop Action), into the disk tray and jumped into the ring. What new contenders Midway have delivered creates a wrestling experience unlike any other, but a package that comprises of the good, the bad and the absent.
