Programmes recorded via Sony’s upcoming DVR PlayTV can be exported and played back on PC after all, we can reveal.

The discovery comes after recent reports suggested that the feature had been cut from the PS3’s DVR altogether, sending prospective buyers into a pre-order cancellation frenzy.

As you can see in this video we’ve put together, recorded programmes can be exported to the PS3’s XMB and then copied to an external hard drive for playback on a PC, seemingly circumventing any DRM issues. The .m2ts files can be played using VLC media player or compatible software.

PlayTV finally launches in the UK on Friday 19th September, and our in-depth review of Sony’s little black box will be going up on the site very soon.
