GC08: Sony’s Press Conference – The facts
So the first day of Games Convention 2008 is almost over, rounding itself out with a press conference from Sony. Here’s the roundup of what went down:
PSP 3000
Finally confirmed, the PSP 3000 sports an enhanced LCD screen that allows for more colour and an in-built microphone. Looks just like the PSP Slim & Lite. Launches across Europe on October 15 for 199 Euros.
160GB PS3
Another PS3 SKU, this time sporting a 160GB hard drive. No other differences as far as we can see. Launches in Europe on October 31st for 449 Euros, 50 Euros more than the 80GB.
PS3 Wireless Keypad
A keypad peripheral that attaches to the top of the Sixaxis/DualShock 3. PS3’s equivalent of the 360 chat pad that will undoubtedly come in handy for Home. No mention of price or release. Pic below.
VidZone
Launching early next year on PSN, VidZone is a music and video service which allows users to download music on demand. The service will allow users to create music libraries on your PS3 which can then be accessed remotely via your PSP. The video service currently available in the US will also be making its way over to Europe.
SingStar
Lots more SingStar coming, including SingStar: Sing With Disney (PS2) and SingStar Queen.
EyePet
More software for the PSEye, this time allowing players to draw a pet, scan it in through the Eye and play with it. Sounds a bit like Nintendogs.
LittleBigPlanet Release Date
European release date confirmed as October 29th which, in case you forgot, is the same week as 160GB PS3.
Heavy Rain
It’s coming next year and the footage we’ve seen looks amazing. Look out for more details in the months ahead.
That’s it. Keep an eye on our GC08 section and D+PAD TV, we’ll be updating them throughout the evening.
