Konami has revealed that Argentinian striker Lionel Messi will be the face of Pro Evolution Soccer 2009. The Barcelona forward will appear on the box art of all European versions of the game, as well as feature in promotional material.

PES 2009 is also set to “enjoy a stunning graphical update wherein its players look identical to their real-life counterparts” according to Konami (though the jury’s still out on whether it’ll look as good as FIFA), “while new moves, innovative control elements and key online enhancements will further the realism.”

Konami also released the first trailer of the premier footy title showcasing Messi’s silky skills. Check it out over on D+PAD TV.

Pro Evolution Soccer 2009 will be released this autumn on PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, PS2, PSP, DS and PC, with a Wii version following in spring 2009.
