Sony has released firmware update 2.42 for PlayStation 3.

According to PlayStation Blog, the update “improves the playback quality of some PLAYSTATION 3 and PlayStation format software.”

We’re not entirely sure what software the update has improved, though rumour has it that it’s in preparation for ‘Life With PlayStation’, the new service coming next week that has users spinning a 3D Earth and accessing global news and weather, and perhaps more excitingly, the ability to upload videos directly to YouTube from within PS3 games.
